Why is it that writers use big words to replace small simple words in their articles. Is it because they think they sound smarter, or is it because they fell the words are eye catching. For example, Andrew Ross Sorkin used to word purported in one of articles called “Fired Dow Chemical Officers Sues JPMorgan” from The New York Times. Why couldn’t he just say supposed, which is a normal everyday word. We see big words everywhere we go from books to ads just so people can convince others to buy their product. It’s not like we use there big words in our daily lives or ever.
In the article “In New Jersey, College Partying That Turned Deadly,” written by Jeremy W. Perers in The New York Times talks how a party lead to a disaster accident. Some of the college students that were partying late at night were using Heroine, which caused a student’s death that was identiefed as Justin R. Warfield. Another student named Gary DeVercelly died from consuming too much alcohol. His blodd alcohol content was .426 which was 6 times the legal limit.
People should know their own limits and not do anything that can cause death. There are other ways to have fun in a party rather than taking drugs and drinking alcohol. Yes, it maybe true that most people find drugs and alcohol should be around when there’s a party giong on becuase these brings some people peace of mind and happiness for some time; forgetting their problems and celebrating their triumph or frat party with a nice cold beer. People tend to forget that too much of everything is bad for you adn people tend to forget their limits especially when they are around people that they want to impress.

In the article “Dollar Falls To New Low Compared With Euro,” written by Carter Dougherty in The New York Times talks about how the value of the dollar bill has fallen again. It’s no surprise that day-by-day the value keeps dropping. The price for a barrel of oil is a little over 90 dollars.
I think if this keeps up, then the economy is going to be getting effected by this a lot. It is also going to impact people’s jobs. In such cases people are going to get upset, and possibly do something aggressive. Not only that a lot of people might be getting laid off. Imports are going to cost fortunes with the value of the dollar being so low. Soon enough people won’t be able to afford such prices.

In the article “Schools in Several States Report Staph Infections, and Deaths Raise the Alarm,” written by Ian Urbina in The New York Times talks about how MRSA has effected a lot of schools. MRSA, which stands Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, is a mild skin infection that doesn’t cause a major problem until it gets inside the body and causes infections. This disease is so dangerous that about 19,000 people have died from it in 2005. The disease is most commonly found in schools. More people have died from this disease than AIDS. This disease is spread by sharing items, or direct skin-to-skin contact from someone who has the disease.
I think which such a disease going around, a lot of people are going to be getting effected. If this disease is worse than AIDS, then the outcomes will be a lot worse too. Just thinking about it sounds so scary. People need to be aware, and know how easy it can be spread.

Oil prices are 86 dollars a barrel now. Last month it was 80 dollars a barrel. Prices seem to be rising so much no one can seem to afford it anymore. Not only that, heating cost have also gone up by 10 percent. The reason why prices seem to soaring is because of global demand for energy. Prices are not only rising in the United States, but also in China and the middle east.
There seems to be a lot of oil in Iraq, but we cannot seem to get to it because of the bombing that has been going on there. Last month Iraq pumped millions of barrels of oil and exported over a half of it.
Such prices are ridiculous even when it comes down to oil. It has been said, some of the reason oil prices might come down are: milder-than-expected weather, unexpected growth in supplies from Nigeria or Iraq, or an American economic slowdown. But even without such situations the prices should not be so high.

A lot of students for over 12 years have been failing classes. They have not been able to do grade-level courses such as math or English. A lot of schools have notes about 4 to 7 students out of a 100 know how to do math or English. Since students have not been passing a lot of teachers and other staff members have been getting fired. I don’t think it is the teachers fault that the student isn’t learning those course. If a student wishes to learn he will try to succeed to matter what. But in this generation a lot of students have been slacking off and don’t seem to care much. They think education doesn’t hold much value. Also in such cases they have started shutting down schools and started making smaller schools. I don’t think that is really necessary because if kids wants to educate themselves they will, and if don’t then they won’t. But kids who do want to educate themselves should not have to deal with such a case just because other students don’t want to learn. Also everyone seems to be busy fighting over the “No Child Left Behind” act, that no one realizes if kids don’t go to school or teachers are fired continuously that act won’t hold any value.
Teachers have started to wonder why kids are failing so badly in math and English, its because kids never give feedbacks. A teacher can’t give a student one on one because then it would just take too long for her to go through the whole class, but at the same time different students are having difficult in different parts of each subject. Hopefully they don’t end up shutting schools because it won’t be fair for the rest of the students who want to learn.

Is it really safe to fly in an airplane?
Studies show that it is safer to fly in an airplane now then it was 10 years ago. The reason, why we have fewer collisions now is because our technology has upgrades, and we are very well aware of what is happening now. But that doesn’t mean that they’re wont be any more collisions, this year we have had 7 crashes and 20 people have died from each airplane. It’s also been proved that most collisions happen during landing time because pilots either make a wrong turn or a controller made an error. There has been new equipment made, called the F.F.A., to warn pilots of any conflicts. The downfall of the system is that it can also be misconstrued for another plane. The system also warns the controllers not the pilots, so if a collision was to occur the pilot would not be the first to be notified. But in the future airlines are getting smaller, and soon we will need only one pilot to fly an airplane. But as of now about 25 to 26 million passengers will travel this year and by 2025 it will be doubled. And since the amount of passengers traveling will be doubled, a lot of planes will have to fly closer together. This can cause more collisions. Hopefully the collision rate has declined by then.

Everywhere we go we see ads. It’s become part of our daily lives now. It’s no surprise we see an ad every 5 minutes. After all, that is how businesses make money, by advertising. The place where we see the most adds is myspace. Myspace is where businesses seem to be posting a lot of advertisement. That also happens to me one of the most visited sites. And since its one of the most visited sites, companies want to advertise their products. Another site that seems to be most visited is Facebook. Myspace’s rival, Facebook also seems to be getting a lot of advertisement. Since companies keep thinking of ways to make money, why not advertise where people go to the most, the internet. By this people learn about new and upcoming products and businesses make sales and money.

I think what Mr. Khan is trying to do is good and bad. The fact that he is trying to stick to his religion is good. But, I also believe that if he is trying to convince people to believe in his religion, thats not a good thing. I think people should believe in what they want to, not be forced to like or do something that they don’t want to. By creating web sites on the internet not everyone is going to be unhappy. Soon it will start to annoy people, and lead to nothing but arguments and violence. Trying to convince people to believe in something over the internet is just wrong, especially when they don’t care for it. And doing it over and over again just so you can convince people to believe in your beliefs is wrong.

In Thomas L. Friedman’s article “Generation Q” it talks about how people should get more involved. And a lot of people aren’t doing much, and keep thinking of ways to raise money. No one is concerned about what is happening in the world anymore. All they ever do is think about money. If people started doing things for this generation it would be a better place and people wouldn’t be so selfish. By getting people to get involved, we need people to speak up and say something. Things tend to change when you speak your opinions. People from the past have spoken up to try to change a lot of things. Like Martin Luther King Jr. spoke up to stop slavery. It worked out for him. He didn’t want people to join him he just wanted to stop slavery. If people get involved more then maybe we can have a better and peaceful place to stay.
